Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems in both the UK where I live and the USA. As someone who has been prone to social anxiety, one of the most common desires when suffering from an anxious episode is to just feel understood, and not so alone.
I think anxiety can be a very isolating issue because it can often feel like you are the only one on the face of the Earth who has this problem. Very often I’d find myself asking “why can’t I just be normal?”
On top of that there is all the advice out there from those closest to us which doesn’t really mean well, after all, hearing ‘you just need to put yourself out there and have a bit more confidence, you are great’ doesn’t really help when inside I wish more than anything I could go and speak to people but I physically and mentally can’t.
To that end, I’ve compiled this little list of quotes about anxiety that are a nice mix of understanding and sympathy from other peoples experiences, along with some quotes I’ve found to be useful to both myself and others.
